Well, this is my first commission this year and because I learned many things while working on that, I want to do a tutorial on this. Since most of my readers seem to be German, I will do everything bilingual from now on. 🙂

Step 1: Colours I / Schritt 1: Farben I
I used alcohol markers (copics) for the skin, because they are easy to control on watercolour paper. The shadows are applied on the areas that cannot be touched by the light (center of the body). Since the moon in this picture is huge, make sure that the shadows are not too dark. We want a bright and shining atmosphere, right?
Die Hautfarbe habe ich mit Alkoholmarkern (Copics) gemacht, da sie auf Aquarellpapier sehr einfach zu kontrollieren sind. Die Schatten sind dort, wo das Licht die Figur nicht berühren kann (Körpermitte). Da der Mond in dem Bild riesig ist, sollten die Schatten nicht zu dunkel sein. Wir wollen ja eine leuchtend helle Atmosphäre, richtig?
Step 2: Remarks / Schritt 2: Bemerkungen

a) Apply the first 2-3 layers of colour to the whole drawing. Blue is the dominant colour, so it looks kinda scary and soulless now, but keep the wanted image in mind and don’t think too much.
b) Make sure you play with the ink – leave some small lighter areas and apply here and there a water drop or two, it will absorb the colour and give the picture the typical aquarell-look. Apply as many layers as you like (I recommend 3-5 layers for usual watercolour paper). Vary the colours by adding some violet, black (only for the exterior parts regarding the shining effect), you can also use a warm blue. This will bring the background to life!
And don’t get angry if it doesn’t work at the first time – water needs to be bend, right? 😉
a) Fügt nun die ersten 2-3 Farbschichten hinzu. Das Blau ist sehr dominant, deshalb sieht das Bild noch sehr leer und ein bisschen gruselig aus, aber behaltet einfach das Endergebnis im Kopf und denkt nicht zuviel darüber nach.
b) Passt auf dass ihr mit der Tusche spielt – lasst ein paar kleine hellere Stellen und gebt hier und da den einen oder anderen Wassertropfen dazu, sie werden die Farbe absorbieren und dem Bild den typischen Aquarell-Look geben.
Macht soviele Farbschichten wie ihr wollt (ich empfehle 3-5 für gängiges Aquarellpapier). Variiert dabei die Farbe, indem ihr auch mal ein bißchen Violett, Schwarz (nur an den äußeren Bereichen wegen des Leuchteffekts) oder auch mal ein warmes Blau hinzufügt. Das gibt dem Hintergrund Leben!
Und seid nicht sauer falls es beim ersten Mal nicht klappt – Wasser muss gebändigt werden, richtig? 😉
Step 3: Colours II / Schritt 3: Farben II
To give life to the drawing, I used yellow for the gold accessories and the flowers. The blue gems became red because I wanted to avoid a sharp contrast between blue and pink in the hair (and isn’t there already enough blue in the picture?). 🙂
Um dem Bild Leben zu geben habe ich gelbe Tusche für den Goldschmuck und die Blumen verwendet. Die blauen Edelsteine wurden rot, weil ich einen scharfen Kontrast zwischen Blau und Rosa in den Haaren vermeiden wollte (und ist in dem Bild nicht schon genug Blau?) 🙂
Step 4: Details / Schritt 3: Details
Red and pink run like a golden thread through the picture – the hair, the gems, the shadows in the dress and of course, the violet areas in the background (look for them, they are not that easy to find). So why not pink in the flowers? It makes them three-dimensional and fascinating (the left one looks rather boring).
What you can also see is a part of the „background“ – I added with dark blue copic markers and a black fineliner dots at the darker areas which gives a more playful impression (and actually was pretty much fun). ♥
Rot und Pink sind der rote Faden in dem Bild, die Haare, Edelsteine, die Schatten im Kleid und natürlich die violetten Stellen im Hintergrung (sucht sie mal, sie sind garnicht so leicht zu finden). Also warum sollten nicht auch die Blumen Pink aufweisen? Dadurch wirken sie dreidimensional und spannend (die links sehen ja ziemlich langweilig aus).
Step 5: Mistake Correcture / Schritt 5: Fehlerkorrektur
As you can see, I overpainted some important areas.. I actually have masking fluid, but since it damaged own of my last paintings I try to avoid using it as much as possible.
However, if you mix the coloured ink with white ink, you will get a well covering colour which you need to apply 2-3 times (in my case it were only 2 layers). On very hard spots I used white ink as highlights and light dots to underline atmosphere (and to perfectly cover my mistakes of course, haha).
With this method I had to work on many areas. Naturally, this is what makes the least fun and takes most of the time. But at the end I was very happy that I could get it the way I wanted and I did not need to do it again. 😀
Wie ihr sehen könnt, habe ich blöderweise einige wichtige Stellen übermalt. Eigentlich besitze ich Maskierflüssigkeit, aber da ich damit eins meiner letzten Bilder beschädigt habe, versuche ich den Gebrauch davon möglichst zu vermeiden.
Wie auch immer, wenn ihr die farbige Tusche mit weißer mischt, bekommt ihr eine deckendere Farbe (weil die weiße Tusche an sich dicker ist), die ihr 2-3 mal auftragen müsst (bei mir waren es nur 2 Schichten). An schwierigen Stellen habe ich mit der weißen Tusche Highlights and Lichtpunkte gesetzt, um die Atmosphäre zu unterstreichen (und meine Fehler perfekt zu verschleiern natürlich, haha).
Auf diese Art und Weise habe ich so einige Stellen überarbeitet. Das ist natürlich das, was am Längsten dauert und am wenigsten Spaß macht, aber am Ende war ich sehr froh dass ich das Bild noch hinbekommen habe und nicht von vorn anfangen musste. 😀
To be honest, the picture in my mind looked a little bit different, but that’s what I like about drawing: the best ideas come within the process.

Um ehrlich zu sein sah das Bild in meinem Kopf ein wenig anders aus, aber das ist das, was ich am Zeichnen mag: Die besten Ideen kommen immer während des Prozesses.
